Recent work: boilers, pipework and bathrooms

Photos from real jobs, taken on site. Each one says what was done and what to look at, so you can judge the finish before you ask for a quote.

A plant cupboard, from bare walls to a finished system

A narrow cupboard with an Ideal boiler on the wall and nothing else. The work was everything around it: running the heating pipework, fitting the expansion vessel and system filter, and putting in the valves so the whole system works as one.

What you can see

  • An Ideal boiler on the wall, with an expansion vessel beside it
  • Copper pipework in straight, square runs, clipped at regular spacing
  • A filter on the pipework to catch sludge before it reaches the boiler
  • Motorised valves for separate heating circuits

Look at the pipe runs. They sit parallel with square bends, and every one is clipped. That is what makes a system easy to service years later.

Boiler and unvented cylinder on one wall

A boiler, a stainless-steel unvented hot water cylinder and an expansion vessel, all fitted and piped on one blockwork wall. An unvented cylinder gives mains-pressure hot water, which is what makes upstairs showers work properly.

What you can see

  • An Ideal boiler with a stainless-steel unvented cylinder beside it
  • A separate expansion vessel for the heating circuit
  • Heating and hot water pipework in copper, grouped in bundles and clipped up the wall

The wall is not boxed in yet, so the whole layout is visible. Pipes run in tidy parallel bundles rather than crossing over each other.

A boiler in a cupboard, with the pipes kept tidy

An Ideal boiler in a tight cupboard, with the pipework coming down one side in three clipped runs. A cupboard leaves no room to hide mistakes, so the layout has to be right before the first pipe goes up.

What you can see

  • An Ideal boiler on the wall of a built-in cupboard
  • Three copper pipe runs, evenly spaced and clipped
  • A system filter fitted on the pipework beside the boiler

The three pipes run parallel with an even gap all the way down.

A freestanding white bath under a window in a bathroom tiled in dark slate-effect tiles.

Bathrooms · Full refit

A dark slate bathroom with a freestanding bath

Large slate-effect tiles run from floor to ceiling, so the room reads as one calm, dark space. The freestanding bath sits under the window with a chrome tap beside it.

What you can see

  • Large-format tiles with tight, even joints, cut neatly round the window
  • A freestanding bath with a chrome tap

The tile joints line up across the corner and around the window. On big tiles that takes planning before the first one goes on.

A green and brass bathroom with fluted tiles

A bathroom with a point of view: deep green walls, fluted tiles edged in brass, and brushed-brass fittings throughout. Every fitting is the same finish, which is what makes it look designed rather than assembled.

What you can see

  • A wall-hung vanity with a vessel basin and a brass tap
  • A bath with a brass tap set and hand shower on the rim
  • A shower with a brass rain head, inside a brass-framed enclosure
  • A brass heated towel rail and a round backlit mirror

Matching finishes only work when every pipe and valve is in the right place before the tiles go on. That is the part you cannot see in the photos.

A white freestanding bath with a floor-standing tap in a bathroom with a sloping ceiling, tiled in grey with wood-effect flooring.

Bathrooms · Sloping ceiling

A freestanding bath under a sloping ceiling

Rooms under a roof slope are awkward: headroom is short, and every tile on a sloping wall is a cut. Here the freestanding bath is tucked under the slope, where the height is no use for anything else, with its tap standing on the floor behind it.

What you can see

  • A freestanding bath with a floor-standing bath and shower mixer
  • Grey tiles cut to follow the slope of the ceiling on both sides
  • Wood-effect flooring

Follow the tile line where the wall meets the roof slope. The cuts are clean and even all the way up.
